November 18th, 2024 - Didgeridoo and Flute
Mandela and I have been close friends for more than a decade. Did you know that she started playing didgeridoo as a child and that she is the only woman on wikipedia's "List of didgeridoo players?" Her playing is phenominal. Also, did you know that she traveled deep into the center of Australia to ask -- and received -- permission to play the didgeridoo from aboriginal elders? "Play widely and with respect," she was told. And she has and she does. Flute goes well with the music of the didgeridoo. A new, long track that dropped today. All the streamers have it. I hope you listen, perhaps breathe deeply and slowly, and think of nothing. - steve

Oct 19th, 2024 - Flute recorded in the Sea Ranch Chapel
Recently, on a quiet morning, I visited the Sea Ranch Chapel with my flute and a good microphone. This brief 1st recording pairs well with the Milkey Way photograph I had taken several months before.

August 30th 2024 - Casey Zablocki
When was the last time you read an article about a ceramic artist in The Financial Times? My close friend Casey getting more of the press he deserves. Casey and I shared my home studio for several years — talking often about art and business — until the work he was making became so large it couldn’t fit through the garage doors.

A new track of music from my friend Mandela and I. If you subscribe to a streaming service, I hope you give these good sounds a listen, and if you like what you hear, we hope you will add the track to your playlists. :)

Michael Fitzerald
A while ago I composed this music for Fitz: There isn't a day that I don't think about Michael. He was one of my only true friends. He and I visited, talked, emailed, and texted non-stop for more than a decade. His number is still in the list of favorites on my iphone. That list contains my kids, my girlfriend, my friend Wolf, and Michael. The ringer of my phone is always off but Fitz and I agreed that we would each be on our 'favorite' lists to 'breakthrough' in case we needed to get a ride someplace, complain about fools or liars, or needed to have a laugh. The last call I received from Fitz rang through because he had called multiple times in a row. He was whispering, with medical machinery beeping in the background. He called to say goodbye. And we still made each other laugh. Michael credited me for getting Submittable launched by my pushing him to focus on what he did so well: tell a story. That was more important than the money I invested. And I credit Michael for pushing me to get back to writing fiction and playing music. He was good at making people do more of whatever they were best at. He pushed us to be better people. I deeply, dearly, miss him. Our world shrunk when Michael Fitzgerald left. Have you read his novel, 'Radiant Days?' The first day we met, when he came into my office looking for a job, he handed me his novel instead of a resume. I put his book on a shelf, and we talked. Instead of a job, I offered to invest in him so he could work on his start-up full-time. Then I didn't get around to reading 'Radiant Days' for several years. And by that time I knew the real character of the real story. And his book just sang. (@hisuzanne photo)
